Death of a Small Town

This past week we have come to see the death of a small town within a city that is fast losing its communities. The small town at the center of Vancouver, Main and 41st Avenue has lost its local pub - The Penny Lane - one of only two remaining businesses in an otherwise ghost-mall. Across the street the desolate remnants of a pharmacy, barber shop, bakery and fitness gym have come to symbolize the "new order". The new order under which community is scrapped for development - or totally destroyed and left bare in the landlords' waiting game for better market conditions.
The Penny Lane has been in existance for 25 years - offering a venue whereby longshoremen and CEOs... housewives and landscapers.... Parks Board' labourers and bank tellers could set aside the onslaught of daily routine and pressures and experience the "human" side of life... (... more to follow....)
